Drake and Nicki Minaj are two of the biggest MCs reppin’ Young Money and on Friday, the hitmaking rappers made major headlines when they tweeted that they had tied the knot. Even if unions announced on social-networking sites aren’t recognized by law, the duo’s strong bond is undeniable.
Here’s a timeline of Drake and Nicki Minaj’s moments in the spotlight on their road to Twitter matrimony:
»Minaj told Mixtape Daily in August 2009 that she and Drizzy are “super-close.” “Before all of this started, I would tell him, ‘You’re a star.’ And he’d be like, ‘You’re a star.’ And we’d kinda been each other’s biggest fans. To see his dreams come into fruition, it makes me very happy,” she said.
»In fall 2009, Minaj battled criticism for reportedly penning her freestyles beforehand; an issue that Drake also dealt with earlier in the year.
»In March 2010, Drizzy and Minaj joined Young Money boss Lil Wayne onstage at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden. “This means the world to me — to be there with Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy and Drake,” Minaj said. “It was the stuff that dreams are made of for a girl.”
»Drake and Minaj appeared together on the May issue of XXL magazine with the caption, “Domination: The Rebirth of Rap Royalty.”
»Drake stuck up for Minaj in June amid her drama with fellow femcee Lil’ Kim and said he “didn’t respect” the Queen Bee’s swipes.
»Drake said that he and the Young Money Barbie have a “playful relationship” when asked about the infamous “Miss Me” lyric in which he spits about wife-ing up Minaj. “That line on the album is just me playing with her. I’ll be playing with her for years until she’s ready to go, and then I’m ready,” he said.
»Drake dropped Thank Me Later on June 15. Nicki Minaj appears on the track “Up All Night.”
» On August 27, the MCs told their Twitter followers that they are married. “Please refer to @nickiminaj as Mrs. Aubrey Drake Graham and dont stare at her too long. She’s finally mine.
,” Drizzy tweets.

Insane Clown Posse Talk Tila Tequila, Method Man Incidents At The Gathering

‘We’ve got nothing but love for Method Man and Redman,’ Violent J tells MTV News.By Kyle Anderson

Back at the beginning of August, one of the biggest music festivals of the year took place over a long weekend in Illinois. No, not Lollapalooza — the 11th annual Gathering of the Juggalos, the four-day extravaganza curated by and starring the Insane Clown Posse.
The festival has grown in both size and stature over the past few years, in part because of the online success of trailers that tout the festival and in part because of its increasingly eclectic lineups.
But this year, the Gathering picked up some attention for more negative reasons. A good portion of the mainstream media coverage of the festival reported on the injuries suffered by reality star and sometimes rapper . She suffered a number of injuries and threatened to sue ICP, though according to Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J, nothing of that sort has happened.
The pair regret what happened to Tequila and are still trying to figure out her motivation. “The only reason she got hurt was that she stayed up on stage. It was obvious they didn’t want her there, so why did she stay up there?” ICP member Violent J told MTV News.
“It was a shame, because all she had to do was get off the stage,” he continued. “Nobody said, ‘You have to get on there and stay up there to get paid.’ The way I understand it, they paid her before she got up there and they said, ‘There’s a rumor you’re not wanted here, and you’re free to take off if you like.’ She went up there and stayed up there anyway.”
Legendary Wu-Tang Clan rapper Method Man also suffered a facial laceration after getting hit with flying debris during his performance with partner Redman. That bothered the men of ICP, because they feel it misrepresented the tenor of their fans. “What happened to Method Man — that shouldn’t even be discussed, because that was one a–hole,” Violent J said. “One d—head threw something, and by chance, it hit [Method Man] in the face. But he wasn’t speaking for Juggalos or for ICP or the Gathering. And they weren’t getting bombed up there — it was one a–hole.”
“That kid shouldn’t have thrown something and should have played the lottery instead,” added Shaggy 2 Dope. “Same chances.”
But while ICP aren’t sure what their status is with Tequila, their relationship with Meth is copacetic. “We’ve got nothing but love for Method Man and Redman, and we’ve talked to them since then. We talked to them that night and we talked to him just the other day,” J told MTV News. “And if we had caught the kid who threw that, he’d a got it.”

Chelsea Handler Refuses To Sing Or Dance At VMAs

VMA host Chelsea Handler is good at certain things, like telling cutting jokes, writing hilarious books and making her male staffers get dolled up in clothes from Madonna and Lourdes’ Material Girl line.
But the “Chelsea Lately” host knows her limitations.
“I’ve actually watched a bunch of the VMAs from over the past few years and there was definitely a lot of singing and dancing,” she told MTV News’ Jim Cantiello about her first time hosting the MTV Video Music Awards, which air on Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. “I’m not a dancer and I’m not a singer, and I don’t have the kind of ass that should be mooned. I mean it’s sweet, it’s a sweet ass, but it’s little and it’s white.”
No hay más Led Zeppelin
Sep 3rd
¿Y a ti? ¿Qué te parece todo esto?

T.I., Tiny Arrested For Pills That ‘Resembled Ecstasy,’ Police Allege

Details are beginning to emerge about the Los Angeles traffic stop that resulted in rapper T.I.’s and wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle’s arrests on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance Wednesday night.
According to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Tip (born Clifford Harris Jr.), 29, was pulled over by police when he made an illegal U-turn in his Maybach on Sunset Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. Once officers approached the car on the traffic violation, they reported smelling the odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle, which prompted a search of the car and its passengers.
Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Nicole Nishida confirmed that police found a controlled substance in the vehicle described as an unspecified amount of pills that “resembled ecstasy.” Police are currently testing the pills and Nishida said she could not confirm where the pills were found. She also confirmed that there were other passengers in the car who were not charged with any crimes.
TMZ has posted pictures of the black-and-gray vehicle T.I. was reportedly driving at the time that show tall white Styrofoam cups in the front and back cup holders. The site speculated that the cups could also point to the presence of codeine syrup, a.k.a. sizzurp, a popular concoction made up of narcotic cough medicine and sometimes consumed in Styrofoam cups. Police have made no mention of codeine so far.
T.I. is on probation following a seven-month prison stint for a felony gun charge, itself a violation of his probation from a previous felony arrest. As part of his release in March, T.I.’s new probation conditions included supervised release for three years, DNA testing and drug counseling, as well as a ban on owning firearms and an agreement to submit to reasonable searches.
An assistant to T.I.’s attorney in the federal gun case told MTV News on Thursday morning (September 2) that a statement would be released later in the day on the matter, but that no details were available before that time on how, or if, the arrest could impact Tip’s probation in the previous case. A spokesperson for the probation office handling Tip’s case in Atlanta could not be reached for comment at press time.
T.I. and Tiny were released on $10,000 bail early Thursday morning and are due back in court on Friday (September 3).

Miley Cyrus: ‘I’m Not A Rapper’

‘It’s speaking to the music,’ Cyrus says of her ‘rhythmic’ stylings on Can’t Be Tamed.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway

In addition to adopting an edgier look and sound on her new album, Can’t Be Tamed, Miley Cyrus is also trying out a new way of expressing herself. On tracks like “Liberty Walk,” Cyrus raps — but please, don’t call MC an MC.
“I call it more of a spoken, rhythmic [singing style],” she explained. “I’m not a rap type. Maybe a little bit. It’s speaking to the music, but if I say that I’m a rapper, I’m going to be like, ‘I’m not a rapper.’ I’ve got no flow in that way. I’ve got no swag.”
Her “Can’t Be Tamed” single, however, did just get a hip-hop makeover, courtesy of Lil Jon, who Cyrus said took the track to a whole new level. “He’s sick,” she said. “I love him, because he just made this song. It was already something that set me apart, but it just [became something more with him]. You know, the fact that he respects my music and we are completely opposite styles, and the fact that he can be like, ‘OK, this is a good song,’ it just shows you don’t have to be a certain age, gender [to like it].
“It’s a dance song,” she added about the remix. “It’s a party song, and he’s awesome. I like how he’s one person when he’s chilling in the studio. I’ve never seen someone flip on and off. He’s got, like, double personas … like so wired. It’s cool.”
Although she once admitted she has never heard a Jay-Z song — despite her Jay-referencing line in “Party in the U.S.A.” — she does have a few other favorite MCs, including Gucci Mane and OJ Da Juiceman. “I love it,” she said of the two rappers. “I don’t know any of the songs. They all blend in. I can’t really break it up, but I like it. But I’m not a rapper.”

Drake’s ‘Miss Me’ Video Shoot Complicated By Lil Wayne’s Absence

‘It wasn’t shot the way I would have shot it,’ Anthony Mandler says of Lil Wayne footage shot before he came onboard as director.By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Audrey Kim

Drake’s “Miss Me” video is the third project between the rapper and director Anthony Mandler (Jay-Z, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige), following their work together on the Toronto star’s “Over” and “Find Your Love.”
According to Mandler, he and Drake are establishing an aesthetic via their collaborations. Mandler said that “Over” was about re-establishing Drake visually and “Find Your Love” was intended to make Drake the lead in an anti-love story.
With “Miss Me,” however, the director said the video was a particular challenge because co-star Lil Wayne’s footage was shot prior to Mandler coming onboard.
“It wasn’t shot the way I would have shot it,” Mandler explained to MTV News. “So I had to come up with a world where I had ultimate control. I think with Drake, we’re always looking for overarching themes. We’re always looking for bigger themes to hang our hat on. With ‘Miss Me,’ what was interesting to me was not the idea of ‘miss me because Wayne was gong to jail.’ Because it was deeper than that. It was the attainability verses the unattainability. And how stars and people who are public figures are expected to sit on a platform and be grabbed and watched and photographed and controlled.
“The idea for me was, what happens if it’s not that clear,” he added.
The director said he incorporated a set where everything was slightly off. The set was built with a converging ceiling, in order to appear smaller. The lead actress in the video was never fully shown. The Young Money star appears but then quickly disappears.
“Everything is a click off,” Mandler explained.
“All these unrelated scenarios are related by a textual theme and trying to play that into that, rather than some straight narrative, because we didn’t have control … ’cause we didn’t have Wayne,” he said.
